Mushroom Identification Weekender at Delamere

Come deep dive into the world of mushroom identification with us, on this weekend long course. This course will combine field trips and classroom study using keys and other materials to help you identify fungi found in the UK. 

By the end of the course, you should have the skills necessary to classify mushrooms into the major groups, and identify some mushrooms to species level. You will have learned field techniques and identification skills necessary to help you to go out mushroom hunting with confidence. 

Who should attend

This course is for beginners who are interested in learning more about identifying fungi - maybe you have used apps or books before or not. We will be using  keys but no experience of using these tools are necessary. 

Course plan 

This weekend course will take place 12th -13th October , running from 10.00am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. 

We will meet at 10.00 am on the Saturday at Delamere Community Centre near Delamere Forest (please note this is the one on Station Road). For both days, we will be spending some time in the field looking at mushrooms and sometime in the classroom, either in class or working through keys, taking spore prints, etc. 

Price 

This course is offered on a sliding scale basis of £95 to £125, dependant on what you can afford. The cost covers tuition, materials and tea and biscuits for both days. This event is subject to our refund policy. 

Venues & Accessibility

Delemere Forest is a large wood near Manchester which contains a mix of evergreen and deciduous trees. There are toilets and a cafe at the forest visitor centre. We will spend a good part of the weekend here looking for mushrooms - this will involve a fair bit of walking on potentially uneven ground. 

Delemere Community Centre is a community space located near Delemere Forest. The address is: 5 Station Road, Delamere, Northwich,

Cheshire, CW8 2HU. Please let us know if you have any access requirements and we will try our best to meet them.

Travel 

If you are travelling by car and are willing to give other participants a lift to & from the field sites, then please let us know when you book. 

What to bring

Food and accommodation are not provided as part of this course, so please make your own food and accommodation arrangements if necessary.  There is a cafe at Delemere Forest, we will try and make sure we are near there around lunch time 

Please bring sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothes, we will be outside for a lot of the time and it does tend to rain a bit! Please also bring a notebook / clipboard and pen, weatherwriter if you have one, and a hand lens / microscope, and some tubs (margarine tubs, old hummus pots, etc.) to store samples in. Hand lenses will be available to purchase from us if you need to.
