About

Join Myco for our first Mushroom Cultivation Weekend Course where we'll dive deep into everything you need to know about each step of mushroom cultivation. Set over two days, the course will cover a mix of theory and practical activities, giving you the knowledge and skills to culture a range of species, make your own mushroom spawn and utilise multiple cultivation techniques.

Who should attend

This course is aimed at growers, farmers, gardeners and anyone with an interest in learning how to grow mushrooms in a range of settings. Although we'll be covering some of the cultivation methods explored in our previous workshops, this course offers a more expansive look into the world of fungi so there'll be plenty more to learn if you've previously attended an event with us.

What is covered

  • An introduction to fungal biology
  • Preserving fungal biodiversity
  • Stages of mushroom cultivation
  • Isolating wild genetics using both low and high tech methods
  • Making mushroom spawn
  • Outdoor log cultivation
  • Indoor bucket cultivation
  • Reishi cultivation in monotubs
  • Troubleshooting and identifying contamination

Price

This course is offered on a sliding scale basis of £90 to £125, dependant on what you can afford. The cost covers tuition, materials and tea and biscuits for both days. This event is subject to our refund policy.

Venue & Accessibility

Bridge 5 Mill is a sustainable events space in Ancoats, Manchester. The address is: 22a Beswick Street,  Ancoats, Manchester, M4 7HR.

As part of the course you will be making a mushroom log, a small monotub, and some agar cultures, so please think about how to take them home. The log is the heaviest thing, but could be feasable to take home on the bus if you aren't carrying much else. You can always pick them up from us at the farm at a later date if need be.

The venue has wheelchair accessible toilets and the room we will be using is wheelchair accessible via a lift. Please let us know if you have any access requirements and we will try our best to meet them.

What to bring

Food and accommodation are not provided as part of this course, so please make your own food and accommodation arrangements if necessary. Please note the venue is vegetarian, so please bring a veggie lunch. There are some snacks, drinks and foods (think hippy shop) available to buy at the venue, please bring cash for this.

You might want to bring a paper and pen/pencil to take notes.

If you have any questions about this event you can get in touch with us at hello@mycomanchester.com
