About

Do you want to recognise more wild plants? This workshop is designed as a beginners guide to using keys and floras as a means of getting to know and becoming more confident with identifying a wide range of plants. Many plant geeks use apps and pictures in books to identify plants, whilst this can be pretty accessible it's often not that accurate. Learning to use keys and floras will take your ID skills to the next level.

In this 3 hour workshop we will practise using keys and floras to identify plants from “difficult” groups; with this session focusing on ferns and their allies. Whilst we will be focussing on ferns,  the skills you will learn will be applicable to any group. We will demystify any botanical jargon together. Weather permitting, the workshop will be a mix of indoor IDing, working with samples, as well as looking at plants across the park.

Ticket prices are sliding scale, starting at £20 and depending on what you can afford.  Please bring weather appropriate clothes, any keys/floras you have, and a hand lens / magnifying glass if you have one. We will have some spare books and kit, so don’t worry if you don’t have any.
