About

Who can come?

This event is for LGBT+ people and their friends - we won't be policing this in any way and trust you to know whether that includes you.

What is a wild walk?

They’re a  chance for us to learn, connect and enjoy nature together - we explore a  green space at a leisurely pace, pointing out interesting plants or fungi we  come across. Sometimes we’ll talk about wild food and tasty  things you can forage, but this isn’t the primary focus. It’s a space  for us to share our knowledge rather than flaunt it - we’re far from  professional botanists so can’t identify everything and encourage others  to share what they know too!

Meeting points

Meet at Platt Fields Market Garden Car Park at 11am if you want to get a lift in the van from Manchester  to Grindleford.

Meet outside Grindleford Station Cafe at 12.30 if you want to join for lunch / cuppa at Grindleford Cafe. Grindleford Station Cafe is a local institution, famous for selling pints of tea. See their menu here: https://grindlefordstationcafe.org/menu/

Meet outside Grindleford Station Cafe at 1.15pm if you are making your own way there and don’t want to join us for lunch / a cuppa.

Accessibility

There are some steep slopes on this walk and uneven ground.

The route we are planning on taking is here https://www.zoegoesplaces.com/padley-gorge-walk/

The whole walk itself takes about 2 hours, walking at an average speed. We will probably take much longer as we will be looking at every nice log / mushroom / patch of moss as we go past.

There will be potential to break off for a rest at Padley Gorge and not visit the moorland, rejoining us for the walk back to Grindleford if you want a shorter walk and don’t mind waiting for the rest of us.

The only toilets on the route are at Grindleford Station Cafe and are for customers only, but there will be areas where you could easily slope off for a tree-wee if needed.
